Supervised all aspects of children’s services in a busy public library.

Librarian, Cricket Library, Peru, IL, fifteen years
While working as editor at The Cricket Group, also supervised corporate library of 40,000 volumes; advocated for and supervised conversion from card catalog to computer; initiated Cricket Library membership in regional library system; maintained corporate membership in American Library Association.

Supervisor of Library Services, Cox Medical Centers, Springfield, MO, one year
Responsible for all operations of two medical libraries after previous manager was let go; inherited a demoralized staff with a large backlog of work. Turned morale around, had the backlog caught up within six months, and increased library use throughout the medical centers.

Independent Librarian, Springfield, MO, five years
Research, programming, teaching, and organizational services. Clients included educational institutions, community mental health center, and nonprofit organizations. One example: set up engineering library for city utility company. Designed floor plan, ordered furniture and supplies, arranged for OCLC cataloging of an existing collection of books, designed a computer database and created a classification system for documents generated in-house, designed a self-service circulation system, and trained a staff member to maintain the library.

Children’s Librarian, Springfield-Greene County (MO) Library District, seven years
Department head: supervised all aspects of children’s services in largest and busiest branch of six-library system; budget preparation and management; book selection; collection development; programming for all ages; daily reference, research, and public service; hired and supervised children’s staff and branch paging staff; responsible for branch in manager’s absence.

Librarian/Physical Scientist and Writer, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, Columbia, MO, two years
Maintained a specialized library; created an interdisciplinary computerized bibliography; wrote and edited departmental publications related to economic impact of weather and climate variability.

Interim State Documents Librarian, State Library of Michigan, Lansing, MI, one year
While in graduate school, served in Local History and Genealogy Unit of the state library; cataloged incoming documents; answered questions by mail and at reference desk; organized old documents in library storage.

Intern, Library of Congress, Washington, DC, one summer
Based in Main Reading Room, general reference, with brief experiences in other divisions.
